EDUCATION

Crystal Mountain School is committed to providing free education to the deprived children of Dho-Tarap. By means of education, the school helps people acquire skills, enabling them to improve their living conditions.

In order to preserve Dolpa's cultural heritage, which dates back to medieval Tibet, the school has launched awareness programmes.
Apart from the regular government curriculum, Crystal Mountain School teaches Tibetan and English as well as a variety of other subjects :

Nature preservation
Situated in the buffer zone of Shey Phoksumdo National Park, Crystal Mountain School has been inspired by the park activities and has created an Eco-Club for the senior students which is working actively in the field of nature conservation. The World Wildlife Fund of Nepal gave to the Eco-Club the " Abraham Conservation award 2001 " for the role played in generating awareness within the community to preserve the fragile ecological balance.

Herbal medicine
The ancient use of herbal medication is rapidly declining in Dolpo, despite a wealth of medicinal plants, and giving way to western medical practice. The amchis ( local doctors) will soon have no role to play.
In an effort to revive this tradition, Crystal Mountain School has launched programmes to draw people's attention to the medicinal properties of the locally available herbs, giving practical lessons on their proper use.

Thanka painting
As part of a vocational training programme, the children are invited to take thanka painting and other art classes.

Handicrafts
To promote local weaving and handicrafts, Crystal Mountain School intends to teach these crafts in class and in the community.
