WINTER SCHOOL
The climate in Dho-Tarap,
at an altitude of 4100 meters, forces the school to close down between
the months of November and April. Life comes to a standstill when the
long cold winter sets in around early November.
People move to the lower valleys so, for six months, the school remains
closed along with most of the village households. Because of the short
academic session in Dho-Tarap, Crystal Mountain School felt it necessary
to take the students to Kathmandu, the capital city, to enable them
to complete the set curriculum within a year. In this way, students
learn more about the country, its people and its many cultures.
They are also able to make a holy pilgrimage to Bodhnath and to discover
places of historical importance. The winter programme does not only
prove rewarding from an educational point of view but also protect children
from manual work at home.
